Description
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Process Specialist Sr. Engineer to work independently as a member of Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) Platform Strategy Group at Astemo Americas Inc. The Engineering Process Specialist is responsible for coaching and mentoring Engineering Project Team Members in the use of the AM SDV organization’s process set; USSE. The Engineering Process Specialist is assigned specific projects where they provide experience based advise in Engineering, Project Management, and Project Support process areas as needed. The Engineering Process Specialist also provides Process Engineers valuable insight into process improvement opportunities based on feedback from their assigned development projects. The responsibility of the Engineering Process Specialist are focused on satisfying several of the organization’s identified values:
- Empowerment: by engaging directly with development project team members, this individual provides coaching, mentoring, and encouragement to try things, step outside their comfort zone, and take challenges. They also provide basic things that project team members need to perform their project responsibilities.
- Knowledge: by providing support to multiple projects and through their collaboration with the Software Engineering Process Group (SEPG), this person provides development team members with knowledge that lets us keep our edge, let’s keep asking what’s next.
- Your Voice: by being a liaison between the development project team members and the SEPG, the Engineering Process Specialist provides a conduit for the development team’s input into the organization’s development and operational processes.
Job Responsibilities
Includes the following:
- Engage with assigned Project building a professional rapport with the Project Leader and the entire project team.
- Facilitate USSE process tailoring using the Stages tool for assigned projects
- Assist Project Leader by establishing IBM ALM tools (EWM, DNG, ETM) and SharePoint repository for assigned projects
- Provide periodic status of project process implementation to various levels of management
- Participate in process Design and Implementation Reviews providing user perspective feedback to USSE process improvements
- Participate in monthly SEPG Review Meetings, providing feedback on project usage of USSE process as needed
- First point of contact for SW Project Leaders and project staff
- Coaching project members with piloting and implementation of processes
- Other responsibilities as assigned
- Providing training to project personnel
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- 5+ years proven experience in software strategy, product management, or related roles within the automotive industry
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and persuade stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Experience with applying engineering project management practices on engineering development project
- PMP Certification a plus
- Hands-on experience with high-performance central compute modules, automated driving, AI, machine learning, perception modules, connected mobility, MLOps, and OTA updates
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and persuade stakeholders at all levels of the organization
- Experience with global project teams, especially beneficial if experienced with Japanese culture
- Experience with Stages for process development and deployment
- Clear understanding of automotive software development concepts such as V-Cycle model, A-SPICE, MISRA, ISO 26262, Cybersecurity and SAFe/Agile framework
- Experienced practitioner in an automotive software engineering discipline (i.e. development, testing)
Education: Bachelor/Master of Science Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
Experience: 5+ years of experience of Software Engineering, and/or Software Engineering Project Management in the automotive industry.
Job level is determined by various factors such as organization size, responsibility, career stage, and capabilities.

- Physical Demands: Required to sit or stand for long periods of time. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Travel: Domestic and international may be required as needed. The candidate will occasionally need to travel to multiple global locations to support project development.
