JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A Student Facility Attendant employed with Penn State Campus Recreation is responsible for the overall health, safety and welfare of those using Campus Recreation facilities. Under direction of the Assistant Director of Facilities and Operations, Coordinator for Facilities and Operations, and Student Building Supervisor, the Facility Attendant acts as the attendant on duty during operational hours and is considered an extension of the facility management.
A Facility Attendant’s job duties include:
- Provide exceptional customer service
- Ensure facilities are safe and secure
- Control access in and out of Campus Recreation Facilities at welcome desk
- Open and close program areas within Campus Recreation Buildings
- Conduct rotations of the building identifying facility problems, safety hazards, or violations of Facility Use Guidelines
- Assist in facilitating all emergency response protocols, radio protocols, and situational emergency response
- Maintain knowledge of Campus Recreation facilities policies, programs and services so that you can answer questions, handle problems, and reply to inquiries from participants
- Answer phones, issue equipment, and complete routine building checks
- Complete scheduled cleaning tasks
- Return equipment to proper locations. (re-racking weights, return collars, benches, etc.)
- Set-up, tear down and store equipment
- Assist as needed with the setup and tear down of Informal Recreation, Intramural, Sports Clubs, and Event Rentals
- Attend and participate in all Facility Attendant Meetings
- Maintain professionalism at all times, and perform all other duties as assigned
- Individuals will also provide coverage when needed for special events that go beyond normal operation hours
Facility Attendants must be a student at Penn State University and possess the ability to:
- Multi-task in a fast-paced environment with excellent interpersonal skills
- Willing to cover or trade shifts when necessary
- Ability to recognize and identify unruly patrons or unsafe behaviors
- Must be able to work days, evenings, and weekends as necessary
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification preferred
- Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds with or without accommodation
Campus Recreation is a department within Student Affairs that provides fitness, wellness, and recreational programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the new expanded and renovated 200,000 sf Intramural Building, the McCoy Natatorium, the 700-acre Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, a Tennis Center including six clay courts and four indoor courts, the White Building, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellness Programs, and Intramural Sports.
