Sri Lanka Army

While the overall Army mission is derived from the Ministry of Defence's broader mission "Formulating and executing strategic plans and policies for a secure, safe and sovereign country with territorial integrity", individual units articulate their specific missions in support of this, generally focusing on operational readiness, training, and national security.

Loyalty: A deep commitment and allegiance to the nation, the constitution, and the Army leadership. Duty: The recognition and fulfillment of one's responsibilities, going above and beyond standard obligations. Respect: Upholding dignity, honoring the chain of command, and treating all individuals with fairness and courtesy. Selfless Service: Prioritizing the needs of the nation and the mission above personal interests or comfort, a hallmark of military life. Honour: Maintaining personal integrity, upholding moral uprightness, and acting in a manner that brings credit to the Army. Integrity: Adhering to strong moral and ethical principles, ensuring transparency and accountability in all actions. Personal Courage: The ability to face fear, danger, or adversity, both physically and morally, and to stand by one's values even in challenging situations.

"Serve to Lead": This is the prominent motto of the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA), the premier officer training establishment. It is a powerful phrase in Sinhala, "සේවයෙන් නායකත්වය," which encapsulates the essence of leadership within the military context, emphasizing that true leadership stems from a foundation of dedicated service. "Effort is Soul of the Nation": This is the distinct motto of the Sri Lanka Army Pioneer Corps, highlighting the importance of hard work and development in nation-building efforts. "Fitness for Excellence": This is the motto of the Army Physical Training School, emphasizing physical robustness and peak condition as essential for military competency.
