Levi Strauss (1829-1902) was a German immigrant and businessman who, with tailor Jacob Davis, invented blue jeans in 1873 by adding copper rivets to durable denim work pants, creating the iconic Levi’s brand and a global apparel giant. He moved to San Francisco during the Gold Rush, establishing a dry goods business before recognizing the need for tough workwear, leading to the creation of the world’s first blue jeans, known as “waist overalls”.
